Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, (AKUH,K) started operations in 1985, as an integrated, health care delivery component of Aga Khan University (AKU). It is a philanthropic, not-for-profit, private teaching institution committed to providing the best possible options for diagnosis of disease and team management of patient care. AKUH's multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and care ensures a continuum of safe and high-quality care for patients – all services under one roof.

This University Hospital has 545 beds in operation and provides services to over 42,000 hospitalized patients and to over 500,000 outpatients annually with the help of professional staff and facilities that are among the best in the region. Care is available to all patients in need. Those who are unable to pay for treatment, receive assistance through a variety of subsidies and the Hospital's Patient Welfare Program.

AKUH is the first hospital in Pakistan and among the first few teaching hospitals in the world to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for practicing the highest internationally recognized quality standards in health care. Similarly, the Hospital also holds ISO 9001:2000 certification for practicing consistent international standards of quality services.

Solution

The objective of the project was to provide the Agha Khan University’s Senior Administration Offices, a Document Management System (DMS) and scanning solution that suffices their diversified business-critical needs. The vision also entailed serving AKU’s business need for a paperless environment and to simplify the process of finding and sharing information across boundaries and making better informed decisions for the AKU Staff.

The Sr. Admin Offices at Agha Khan University wanted to improve their organizational effectiveness by implementing a centralized document management system in fourteen units/departments for active electronic documents. Through the provided DMS solution to AKU, the documents in the document repository are searchable and can be retained for a certain period of time. It has simplified the process of finding, sharing information across boundaries and making better informed decisions for the AKU Staff.

Overview

The Royal Army of Oman protects the sovereignty of Oman. In terms of proficiency, RAO is well equipped to the extent that external aggression is now realistically deterred. The Omani army is qualitatively superior to that of many neighboring countries.

Problem

The ever increasing need of collaboration within military structures is becoming one of the imminent shifts in military sciences. The invention of the telegraph, fax, cell phones and the early attempts of document sharing aren’t adequate enough for how most militaries would like their infrastructure to operate. Ever increasing importance of collaboration is seen as the next step of having meaningful information shared within minutes without having to go through the cumbersome approval or documentation procedures. Since the world has gone far enough for the old fashioned procedures a highly efficient communication system also effects decision power of militaries as well as making them applicable in the correct time interval. RAO was previously lacking document management system where they can store/retrieve/centrally access documents to be used around the department. It was their tire need as it was affecting them big time.

Solution

KalSoft proposed Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2010 as a solution with integrated document management system and workflow management system, which had given RAO a flavor of all main areas of the proposed product. KalSoft ensured RAO to realize the full potential of the product being used, and because of that RAO started taking benefits from the diverse range of features for improved efficiency and productivity in their business workplace. Overview

BankMuscat (SAOG) is the leading financial services provider in Oman with a strong presence in Corporate Banking, Retail Banking, Investment Banking, Treasury, Private Banking and Asset Management. Firmly positioned to exceed one million satisfied customers in 2010, the Bank has the largest network of 129 branches, 386 ATMs, 131 CDMs and 4500 PoS terminals. The international operations of Bank Muscat consists of direct branch presence in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait and a Representative Office in Dubai (UAE).

Problem

Bank Muscat was using SharePoint 2003 as an Intranet Portal Solution initially. Soon after a need arose when Bank Muscat started facing problems due to the limitations in SharePoint 2003, due to which business users were not properly getting the benefits of the Intranet Portal Solution. Therefore, the main hunt for Bank Muscat begun from there. In Parallel, Bank Muscat was also looking for a dynamic Content Management System based Corporate Website which could easily run within their environment from integration point of view.

Solution

KalSoft after thoroughly analyzing Bank Muscat core need introduced SharePoint 2007 as a complete Intranet Portal solution to Bank Muscat. KalSoft presented idea/plan of SharePoint 2007 as the Internet Website Portal for Bank Muscat and successfully implemented the entire Corporate Website of Bank Muscat with fully customized look and feel.

As a second phase of Intranet Portal expansion at Bank Muscat, KalSoft brainstormed with the IT and Business users of Bank Muscat and introduced the new features and power of SharePoint 2010. Analyzing the business benefits of the SharePoint 2010, Bank Muscat upgraded their Intranet Portal from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 on High Available Clustered architecture.

Bank Muscat is now benefiting from the new and advanced features of SharePoint 2010. The solution is being used by 25 departments of Bank Muscat corporate wide and in all the branches of Bank Muscat throughout the country.

Overview

National Bank of Oman, the first local bank in the Sultanate of Oman, was founded in 1973 and is today the second largest bank in Oman. The Bank serves its customers in Oman through 51 branches and 78 ATMs, and has 5 branches in Egypt and 1 in UAE. NBO has established a Call Center which enables its customers to enjoy banking services 365 days of the year. Corporate Banking Division delivers a wide range of services for instance term loans, working capital facilities, import and export financing, asset and project financing plus comprehensive cash management services.

Problem

There was a lack of centralized content management for sharing updated information with this material stored in divided information silos throughout the bank divisions. The management required readily available updated content for informed and timely decision making.

Solution

Considering the environment at NBO, KalSoft’s consultants proposed the implementation of Microsoft Office & SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007). With the deployment of a medium server farm, an Enterprise Portal has been developed for employee access and development of Departmental Portals. Data from applications developed in Lotus Notes have been migrated to MOSS 2007 applications. An environment has been established for handling the services and workflows related to requests of logging and tracking, HR services, complaints management and help desk calls.

Overview

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), introduced by late Sultan Said bin Taimur in 1970, is one of the most important organs of the State. Since its establishment, MoI has played a significant role in various aspects of social modernization and service in the country. The ministry has also continued to play a pivotal role in social development throughout the country.

Problem

As part of the Ministry, MOI required a reliable, secure and robust infrastructure with the capability of enhancing productivity across the department. The management identified the need to maintain multiple user sites in four separate AD forests along with the connectivity between their two main sites. An effective email communication mechanism along with a centralized security for protection against internet-based threats was highlighted as a priority. MOI was also looking for a robust Infrastructure and System Center technology suite that can cater server technology need along with system center management. Keeping the big picture in mind - KalSoft sketched IT roadmap (phase-wise) for MOI and started implementing cutting-edge infrastructure technologies there.

Solution

Keeping pain area of MOI in view - KalSoft proposed a solution encompassing Active Directory, MS Exchange 2007 and ISA 2006 for first phase. Active Directory facilitated the application of a fully integrated employee directory and security services with an integrated feature of single sign-on usage for multiple applications and services, and interoperability amongst other platforms and applications. The deployment of MS Exchange provided email messaging with deployed security policies, reliable back-up and data availability mechanisms. With the deployment of ISA, there was a remarkable enhancement in integrated security, fostering efficient management with fast and secure access to network applications. MOI initially was using SUSE Linux Operating system for some of their applications and database servers. Need was to monitor aligned systems through server so that management of systems can be done easily using Microsoft System Center technologies. Second phase begin with the implementation of SCOM. With the help of SCOM, MOI can now monitor 7 Linux Servers. After that implementation of SCCM took place, now MOI is taking care of almost 400 clients after the successful completion of System Center technology at MOI done by KalSoft. Currently MOI has 45 Willayat offices which have distribution points of SCCM server and connected to MOI head office This whole deployment of highly efficient Infrastructure technologies helped MOI in catering their business needs and thus making MOI a unique ministry with having hold of complete IS technology stack being deployed there.

Overview

Nawras is an Oman and Qatar based Telecommunications Company SAOC launched in March 2005 as the second mobile operator in Oman. Nawras is a joint venture between Qatar’s Qtel, European telecommunications company, TDC and several prominent Omani partners. In November 2008 Nawras was awarded a license to operate fixed services as well wireless services. Nawras is also the first company in Oman to offer services through a brand new WiMax network.

Problem

Nawras was facing difficulties regarding its global internet existence and with respect to that Nawras felt that Internet public website was a critical tool for them to communicate with both existing and potential customers, along with partners and other related parties. A need was felt to re-launch the perception and presentation of Nawras on the Internet domain by adding new elements and functionalities. It required the look and feel of a public website that would showcase the fact that Nawras has come a long way since commencing operations a year ago. Along with this they also needed dedicated channels addressing different kinds of Nawras customers. Other problem areas faced were to develop a customer service / self-help / information touch point for Nawras, have a customer database online, promote the products and services and Drive traffic and increase number of visits and hit the website.

Solution

KalSoft proposed the solution based on the Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 platform to meet user requirements. Nawras internal users are able to manage the entire site from a single location provided by MOSS 2007 administration website. Nawras customers and anonymous users are able to access the system through internet. Unrestricted content like news, press releases, promotions, polls and surveys do not require any authentication and the system allows any user to access these contents but for restricted contents like online quiz, discussion boards and newsletter subscription, an authentication system is provided.

Overview

OMV is Austria’s largest industrial group. It is engaged in Oil & Gas Exploration and Production activities in 21 countries worldwide. OMV (Pakistan) Exploration GmbH, with its head office in Islamabad, is a subsidiary of OMV AG. The Company has an active exploration program in Pakistan in different concession areas. OMV Pakistan is producing gas from its Miano and Sawan fields in districts Sukkur and Khairpur in Sindh.

Solution

This was a pioneering effort being the first-ever EPM implementation within Pakistan. This project encompassed a broad spectrum of activities from requirement envisioning based on client project management maturity assessment and entailed deployment of the MS Enterprise Project Management Solution using Project Server 2007 within the Engineering and Planning departments of OMV . This project provided a good learning experience in terms of best practice guidelines on implementing project management solution with OMV in addition to provisioning of business process re-engineering recommendations. The EPM consultant provided role-based hands-on solution training workshops to the stakeholders within OMV as part of their management’s rive to make this solution an integral part of their planning and execution projects.

Sultan Qaboos University is the realization of the promise announced by His. Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said during the 10th anniversary of Oman’s National Day in 1980. Construction started in 1982 and the first Sultan Qaboos University students were enrolled in 1986. In accordance with the Royal Directives of His Majesty, The University commenced with five colleges; namely Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Education and Science. Furthermore the College of Arts was established in 1987, following the College of Commerce and Economics which was developed in 1993. The College of Law joined the University in 2006 and finally the College of Nursing was established in 2008.

Problem

The Wave was in need of a solution which can provide them a central point to keep the status of their ongoing projects, also to provide a space for their employees to collaborate and communicate further, managing documents and workspaces, as well as news, announcements and discussion panes within a portal. The Waves team wanted a central point where they can put their important news, most critical discussion details. They were actually facing log central issues. So the immediate need for The Wave was to get hold of a solution which can provide them the flexibility to upload their departmental documents.

Solution

To The Wave - KalSoft proposed to implement Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 portal, which allowed The Wave a flavor of all main areas for which they were seeking an optimal solution. KalSoft provided The Wave with a robust solution to prove their online existence and allowed them to access documents from a rich repository. Overview

Oman Power and water Procurement Company (OPWP) desired to improve its organizational effectiveness by providing one unified suite of enterprise-scale applications that would satisfy its diverse business-critical needs like managing content and business processes, simplifying how people find and share information across boundaries, and enabling better informed decisions. OPWP also wanted to optimize how people, content, processes, and business applications interacted by deploying one integrated platform, instead of relying on separate fragmented systems. The review not only focused on the technical aspects of the messaging environment but also on soft issues such as procedures, best practice and the underlying business needs that would enhance their overall productivity of their Information Technology Department.

Problem

OPWP was in big problem due to unmanaged documents and manual handling of documents. There was no scanning solution and no collaboration platform available.

OPWP wanted to implement a complete Document Management system with Scanning and archiving functionalities. Secondly, OPWP also required to migrate all their existing excel and word files residing into their File Server to SharePoint 2010. Thirdly, OPWP wanted to have offline document access along with drag and drop functionalities from Outlook to SharePoint.

Solution

Consultants from KalSoft thoroughly analyzed the business environment at OPWP and recommended the implementation of SharePoint along with SQL server 2005 as the database. KalSoft also implemented DocAve Fileconnector from AvePoint to connect all the existing files into SharePoint. Colligo was used for offline SharePoint access and KnowledgeLake was used as a comprehensive scanning solution.

KalSoft had to compete with Filenet and prove to OPWP that SharePoint 2010 is a comprehensive DMS solution. Consultants from KalSoft thoroughly analyzed the business environment at OPWP and recommended the implementation of SharePoint along with SQL server 2005 as the database. Overview

Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) desired to improve its organizational effectiveness by providing one unified suite of enterprise-scale applications that would satisfy its diverse business-critical needs like managing content and business processes, simplifying how people find and share information across boundaries, and enabling better informed decisions. OETC also wanted to optimize how people, content, processes, and business applications interacted by deploying one integrated platform, instead of relying on separate fragmented systems. The review not only focused on the technical aspects of the messaging environment but also on soft issues such as procedures, best practice and the underlying business needs that would enhance their overall productivity of their Information Technology Department.

Problem

Following challenges were faced by OETC before deployment of their Intranet portal:

  • Lack of centralized document repository for sharing updated information throughout the bank divisions.
  • The management required readily available updated content for informed and timely decision making.
